About Barry Ebrima
Ebrima is what one would describe as a horse whisperer. His kind and gentle approach to horsemanship coupled with his deep understanding of horses has resulted in exceptionally well trained horses which are rewarding to ride and happy to go at the speed the rider wants whether it's a walk, trot, slow canter or fast gallop. Here you can see how the latest edition to the stable, Marysa, coped with her first ever encounter with her new home by the sea and how five minutes later here, Ebrima magically transformed a rather scared horse into one that was happily walking through the waves as if she'd been doing that all her life.
Ebrima grew up with horses and rode them as a small child bare back at his mother's village to the pastures. For the past 7 years he has been offering beach riding to tourists up and down the beach. Originally working for another horse business, Ebrima eventually bought his own horse, Lightening and worked on the beaches inspiring many travellers to take up horse riding and guiding people from beginners upwards. He and his horse Lightening had a strong connection and although Lightening was the fastest horse on the beach not everyone wanted to go that fast! Ebrima trained him to slow down by whistling at him. Sadly Lightening passed away a year ago and is much missed. Marysa, the new horse, brings new hope and joy.
Ebrima has taught many children to ride and you can see his protege Indie, galloping around on James here. If you would like your child to learn to ride please get in touch with Ebrima to find out more.
Apart from being a professional horseman, Ebrima is a keen on fitness, he runs and does 500 press ups a day. He is also rap artist musician and song writer in his spare time and has published a couple of songs. In addition he offers a general tour guide service which includes Gambia's traditional music scene soaking up the dulcet tones of the 21 stringed Kora, Balafon and Djembe drums. If you'd like to learn or listen to traditional music please ask Ebrima who can take you to meet some of the country's finest musicians and you could even have a lesson if you wanted to.
